Full Bio:
Roseburg, Oregon’s own The Mother Smuckers are a four-piece instrumental funk band built around groove, interplay, and live energy. With two electric guitars, bass, and drums locking tightly into the pocket, the band delivers rhythm-forward instrumental music that prioritizes feel over flash and chemistry over studio polish.
Formed in Southern Oregon, The Mother Smuckers quickly developed a reputation for high-energy performances and a slightly tongue-in-cheek stage presence — often performing in coordinated, brightly colored tracksuits. While the visual presentation leans playful, the musicianship is serious. Interlocking guitar lines, tightly controlled dynamics, and a rhythm section obsessed with “the pocket” define the band’s sound.
Rather than introducing themselves with a carefully sculpted studio debut, The Mother Smuckers chose to document what they do best: play live. Their first full-length album, Long Live (releasing April 24, 2026), was recorded entirely in front of a live audience. The decision was intentional — capturing the tangible energy, spontaneity, and interaction that defines their shows.
“We wanted to record this record live because we wanted to capture the real tangible energy that we deliver whenever we play in front of a live audience,” says bandleader Tyler Rountree. “Honestly, we just wanted to show the world who we are right out of the gate with no pretenses or hiding behind any ‘studio magic.’”
The album title operates on multiple levels. Long Live marks the beginning of the band’s recorded history while also expressing hope for its future — and subtly embedding the word “Live” into the statement itself.
Four singles precede the album’s release: “Funk Police,” “Midnight Marmalade,” a funk-forward reinterpretation of Childish Gambino’s “Redbone,” and “Shrimp Forks.” Together, they showcase the band’s range — from tightly constructed groove pieces to playful reimaginings.
With Long Live, The Mother Smuckers establish themselves as a live-first band with deep musical roots, a strong sense of identity, and a commitment to making instrumental funk feel communal, immediate, and fun.
